SEBASTIAN — The City of Sebastian has started its first-ever environmental poll to gather feedback from residents on important issues that will help define future efforts to make the city more sustainable.
The initiative, announced this week, will help the board pinpoint which environmental concerns matter most to locals and steer its Sustainable Sebastian programs accordingly.
“From the poll results, we can more definitively determine that the citizens’ priorities are being served, and the poll results will guide future NRB plans,” said board member Matthew Krauss.
Krauss added that the poll could spark greater community involvement in safeguarding Sebastian’s natural assets. “There is great value in asking those we serve their opinions and goals such as encouraging more volunteers, finding new resources, and promoting Sustainable Sebastian initiatives,” he said.
The Sustainable Sebastian program promotes environmental sustainability through a series of goals and tasks focused on reducing waste, enhancing landscapes, improving community resiliency, and educating residents.
Established with support from the City Council via Resolution R-19-30 in 2019, it emphasizes areas like single-use plastic reduction, native landscaping, recycling, and stormwater management.
Residents interested in participating can access the poll online here to provide feedback, although the board didn’t specify a submission due date.
