VERO BEACH — A new Indian River VA Clinic in Vero Beach will provide services incrementally, starting in March and full swing by May. The outpatient facility has diverse specialties and is affiliated with the West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System. The new location, set at 777 37th St. (east of the hospital in what used to be the Old Kurtell Building), the $8 million project will generate some 40 local jobs and increase access to specialized care for area veterans.
First announced in fall 2024 with an anticipated March 2025 opening, the clinic was delayed multiple times due to securing final construction plans and ongoing renovations that still need to be inspected for mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire safety and overall building compliance.
Phased Opening and Services
- Phase 1 (March): The first services will be physical therapy, occupational therapy and chiropractic care. Staffing is nearly complete. The team will be headed by Nurse Manager Jennifer Harris, MSN, RN, ACM nurse manager.
- Phase 2 (by May): Expanded services such as audiology, cardiology, dermatology, neurology and podiatry; prosthetics, pulmonary and urology; on-site blood work.
A soft opening will be held prior to patient appointments starting, with a public open house scheduled for April. Signage installation is expected soon. This is in addition to the current Vero Beach VA Clinic at 372 17th Street, which provides primary care and some other basic services.
To stay up to date on the latest information, they can go to the monthly public meeting of the Veterans Council of Indian River County, which is held at 10 a.m. every first Wednesday in Building B at the county complex where VA reps give updates.
