VERO BEACH — Indian River County officials are teaming up with The Learning Alliance to launch a new children’s literacy activity walk outside the county’s main library, complete with hands-on games aimed at boosting early reading skills.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the library located at 1600 21st Street in Vero Beach. The event will celebrate the installation, which features colorful sidewalk artwork from the Moonshot’s ABC’s of IRC project.
Each letter of the alphabet is woven into interactive elements, including hopscotch games and balance challenges designed for kids of all ages. The setup draws inspiration from the popular Born to Learn Walk at Jaycee Park, county officials said.
The project brings together local partners focused on promoting literacy and improving public spaces for families in the area.
“We are excited to work with The Learning Alliance and Moonshot to bring this creative literacy experience to life,” said John A. Titkanich, the county administrator. “This installation offers a fun, educational opportunity for young learners and supports our shared goal of expanding access to literacy resources across the county.”
Preparation involved removing benches, prepping the surface and coordinating with artists from Moonshot to create a safe spot for children and families.
The activity walk will be open to the public during regular library hours after the installation. More details on county library programs and partnerships are available at www.indianriver.gov.
