INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Canvassing boards in the cities of Fellsmere and Vero Beach plan to oversee a public test of voting equipment ahead of the Nov. 4 municipal elections, ensuring scanners accurately count ballots as required under Florida law.
The logic and accuracy test, set for an undisclosed date, will involve running stacks of pre-marked ballots through all scanners slated for mail-in and Election Day use. Officials say the process confirms that every ballot position is read correctly and votes are tallied without error.
State regulations mandate that election supervisors use certified equipment and conduct these supervised tests before every vote. Once complete, the machines will be sealed and monitored by cameras until they’re sent to polling sites.
Leslie Rossway Swan, the county’s supervisor of elections, urged residents to show up. “The public is encouraged to attend the logic and accuracy test to see for themselves the many checks and balances that ensure the accuracy and integrity of our vote tabulation system,” she said in a statement.
The elections cover local races in both cities. For more details on the 2025 municipal contests, including candidate lists and voting info, visit VoteIndianRiver.gov.
