WASHINGTON — Foster Poultry Farms has voluntarily recalled nearly 4 million pounds of frozen chicken corn dog products after consumer complaints revealed possible contamination with pieces of wood in the batter, federal officials said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall Friday, noting that the issue came to light after the agency received a complaint about an injury linked to one of the products.
Foster Farms, based in Livingston, Calif., reported receiving multiple similar complaints, including five that involved injuries.
The products involved in the recall were made from July 30, 2024, through August 4, 2025, and cover a bunch of different chicken corn dog varieties—like the ones labeled “Chicken Corn Dogs Batter Wrapped Chicken Frankfurters on a Stick” or “Corn Dogs Chicken Franks Dipped in Honey Batter.”
They got distributed to shops and facilities all over the U.S., hitting everything from regular retail spots to Department of Defense sites and even some USDA commodity setups. The products also reached schools through commercial sales, but are not part of the National School Lunch Program.
Consumers can identify the affected products by the establishment number “P-6137B,” which appears inside the USDA mark of inspection or on the packaging. A full list of recalled products and labels is available on the FSIS website.
Officials urged anyone with the products to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase. No confirmed illnesses beyond the reported injuries have been linked to the recall; however, the agency has classified it as Class I, indicating a reasonable chance of serious health consequences.
“These kinds of foreign material issues can happen in processing, but we’re taking it seriously to protect consumers,” a Foster Farms spokesperson said in a statement.
For questions, consumers can contact Foster Farms Consumer Affairs at 1-800-338-8051 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, or email info@fosterfarms.com. Those worried about an injury should see a health care provider.
The recall follows a pattern of similar incidents in the food industry, including a recent one by another major producer involving metal in sausage products. FSIS said it is investigating the source of the wood contamination at the Foster Farms facility.
