SEBASTIAN — Kenneth A. Millman, a retired newspaper editor and Vietnam War veteran from Florida’s east coast, has published a memoir chronicling his life’s adventures from military service to journalism and beyond.
The book, titled “Memoirs of an Old Fart: Tales I’ve Told So Often I’m Beginning to Believe Them Myself,” draws on Millman’s seven decades of experiences, blending humor, nostalgia and reflections on family, loyalty and perseverance. It became available this month through major retailers.

Millman began his journalism career at The Denver Post after earning a degree from the University of Colorado. His path included stints at nine major publications, culminating as editor of special publications at The Miami Herald, where he retired in 2001. He also served as editor-in-chief of Wave and Worldwide Angler magazines.
Before entering the newsroom, Millman served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era as a submarine diver. Raised in postwar Massachusetts, he recounts childhood mischief, military challenges and the evolving American landscape he covered as a reporter.
After journalism, Millman spent a decade as a sailing charter captain in the Bahamas, trading deadlines for life on the water. Now residing in Micco, he volunteers as a wrestling coach at Sebastian River High School.
The memoir pays tribute to Millman’s father, Henry Hart Millman, a World War II veteran whose influence shaped his son’s values of integrity and grit. Chapters weave personal anecdotes with broader insights into human resilience, from small-town upbringing to family milestones as a father of four and grandfather of 10.
Millman describes the book as a collection of stories that illustrate everyday moments changed into permanent lessons, stressing the strength of storytelling to connect generations.
“Stories are how we stay alive long after we’re gone,” Millman writes in the memoir, revealing its theme of reclaiming one’s history through wit and honesty.
