The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be having a public meeting on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the North IRC Library to discuss the resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation project for State Road (SR) 5/US 1/Federal Highway, spanning from north of 87th Street to south of Sebastian Boulevard.
Project Purpose
The project aims to extend pavement life and improve safety by repaving, restriping, and updating crosswalks, ramps, and pedestrian signals to meet ADA standards for all users.
The meeting will feature a formal 30-minute presentation followed by an open discussion, with FDOT staff available to answer questions and provide assistance. Construction Dates/Cost
- Anticipated Construction Start Date: Spring 2027
- Anticipated Construction End Date: Summer 2028

Scope of Work
- Repave the existing roadway to improve the resiliency of our infrastructure.
- Restripe the road to provide 6-foot wide bike lanes with a painted buffer to enhance safety for bicyclists who wish to use the roadway.
- Reduce the posted speed to 45 miles per hour (mph).
- Replace and upgrade signs and pavement markings to meet current standards and increase reflectivity.
- Enhance the lighting at pedestrian crosswalks at signalized intersections to increase visibility for pedestrians, thereby improving safety.
- Modify curb ramps and pedestrian detectors (buttons) to comply with the ADA, facilitating improved access for users with disabilities.
Construction Impacts
- The construction work will be conducted in phases to minimize the impact of construction on the community.
- There will be temporary lane closures required during construction.
- Repaving and restriping will be performed at night.
- Businesses and residences will maintain access during this construction, and pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times.
