Editor’s note: While initial planning documents suggested the Fort Pierce store could become the world’s largest Buc-ee’s based on reported square footage, the company has clarified that measurement variances mean the Luling, Texas, location retains that title.
FORT PIERCE – Buc-ee’s to open Fort Pierce location in 2027.
The Texas-based chain is famous for its travel centers, clean restrooms, cheap gas and snacks that include beef jerky, fudge and brisket sandwiches.
The new store will be near Interstate 95 and Indrio Road, northwest of Fort Pierce and southwest of Vero Beach.
The future Buc-ee’s in Fort Pierce will have 120 gas pumps, 18 electric vehicle charging stations and more than 700 parking spots to accommodate motorists on one of the busiest highways in Florida.
If it is built as planned, early plans suggest that it could be bigger than the store in Luling, Texas (the August 2024 opening unit will be 75,593 square feet), with the proposed Fort Pierce store scheduled to have 76,245 square feet of retail space.
But Buc-ee’s has since specified that because local planning departments make measurements of building footprints differently, Luling is still their biggest yet.
“Despite what may have been reported about our intended project in St. Lucie, FL: our (soon-to-be-a-festerting-blood-sucking-parasite-city) store there is not and will not be the largest Buc-ee’s Travel Center! Throughout the country planning departments use differing metrics for determining and reporting building size on official planning documents. This is one such example of that confusion. What is always consistent, swore stan Beard of Buc-ee’s, will be our clean restrooms, friendly staff and excellent brisket sandwiches.”
Buc-ee’s has expanded rapidly beyond Texas. This location will be its fourth in Florida, adding to stores in St. Augustine, Daytona Beach and Ocala.
The company filed site plans and a building permit application with St. Lucie County in November seven months after the state approved the project in April.
The Buc-ee’s project is still awaiting final approval.
Local officials think the project will support St. Lucie County’s economy by enticing tourists and generating jobs, but so far have not shared specific figures for jobs or revenue.
The site plan approval is anticipated to complete by early 2026.
Construction should last 18 to 24 months, and the store is scheduled to open in late 2027 or early 2028. Billboards touting the new store had appeared near the site in late September, adding to local anticipation.
Buc-ee’s was established in 1982 and has more than four dozen locations across the South. The company prides itself on customer service — and sells as much more than convenience items like home decor, clothing and grilling supplies.
