We spoke with Arlo Guthrie this morning, and the rumor is true, he has listed his home on Indian River Drive in Roseland for sale.
“When we began building it in the late 1980s, my wife, Jackie, and I still had kids at home or recently gone off on their own. So we built it large enough to house the entire family. By the time we got it finished, it was 2010, and it was just Jackie and I. It was too large for us, but we enjoyed it. When Jackie passed away in 2012, I was there alone. Thankfully I’m not alone these days. The location of the house along the Indian River is fabulous, and I’ve enjoyed being there for the last decade. But, it’s time to let someone else enjoy it as much as I have,” Guthrie told Sebastian Daily.
The home, located at 13690 N. Indian River Drive, is listed for $1,650,000. It’s 5,187 square feet of paradise, with most rooms overlooking the river.
We then asked Guthrie if he was moving out of the Sebastian area.
“I’m not planning on moving out of the area. I love Roseland/Sebastian and have many friends here, and my partner, Marti, has a home just up the road from Outriggers (across the bridge) from here. So when the CrabHouse is no longer mine, I’ll move to just over the St. Sebastian River,” Guthrie said.
There have been rumors of retirement ever since Guthrie retired a few shows this year.
“As far as retiring goes – No. I have retired a few annual shows like the one we did every year for over 50 years at Carnegie Hall in New York City a few weeks ago. And I’m trying to adjust the tours we’ve been doing so that there’s less travel for months at a time, and more time in-between the gigs for me to recharge. So, yeah, it’s changing, but I’m certainly not retiring,” Guthrie told Sebastian Daily.
The lot next to the legendary folk singer’s home and the lot across the street is also for sale, as we reported back in November.
The home has 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and sits on a 0.85 acre lot. Guthrie is also selling the lots next door and across the street.
