Marcus Grier and Tromance Smith

Our Sebastian River High School (SRHS) football spotlight players for week 9 are Marcus Grier and Tromance Smith. Both seniors have received exceptional recommendations from their coaches. 

Marcus Grier #3

Marcus Grier

An accomplished senior athlete, Marcus Grier excels as both a running back and a defensive back. After graduation, he aspires to pursue his enthusiasm for football at the collegiate level.

Upon transferring to Sebastian River High School, Coaches Freeman, Harris, and Perry have profoundly influenced Grier’s journey.

“They have given me an opportunity to show my game face & for that, I’m grateful, Grier told Sebastian Daily.

Teammate Patrick Hamilton remarks, “Marcus always has high energy and brings a lot of motivation to the team.” 

Head Coach Perry states, “Marcus comes to practice to get better every day. He’s a very vocal teammate, always pushing his teammates to improve daily.”

Defensive Coordinator Coach Freeman shares, “Marcus is a very passionate kid on and off the field. He strives for perfection, and his energy is always 1000%. In addition, he has a great skill set & it’s a pleasure coaching him.”

Grier wants to shout out to his parents, siblings, and friends who have supported him along the way. 

Outside of playing football, Grier enjoys doing art & being in nature. He also loves being a big brother. 

Tromance Smith #2

Tromance Smith

SRHS senior Tromance Smith is a 6’1″ wide receiver and defensive back with a 3.5 GPA. He has been playing football for the last seven years. After graduating, he aspires to earn a master’s degree in computer science or civil engineering. 

The coaches at SRHS have made a huge difference in this athlete’s life.

“My coaches mean a lot to me. Just coming to Sebastian River and being around the coaches gave me more confidence and overall made me a better man/player,” Smith told us. 

Smith wanted to give a “shoutout” to his parents & coaches. 

“Shoutout to my parents for believing in me and always having my back in whatever situations I face and my coaches for giving me the opportunity to step onto their field and play this game that I will forever love,” he stated.

Defensive Coordinator Coach Freeman notes, “Troy is very humble, respectful and coachable. He is a coach’s dream! He’s not a man of many words, but his actions speak for him. It’s awesome to have him a part of this team.”

Head Coach Perry states, “Smith has a great work ethic. He comes to practice every day and leads with his preparation. He is a leader and a great teammate.”

Teammate Deon Collins remarks, “Troy is a great athlete and a great person who thrives on and off the field and gives 100% every play.”

Beyond his passion for football, Smith enjoys reading and participating in track.

Upcoming Game

The next varsity football match for SRHS is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2023, when they’ll face off against Jensen Beach. The game will commence at 7:00 pm, but arrive by 6:45 pm to witness a special Military Tribute. This tribute will feature skydivers bringing in the game ball, a JR ROTC Flag Presentation, a live anthem performance, and participation from both active and retired military personnel. Additionally, Sebastian’s Mayor, Fred Jones, will have the honor of initiating the coin toss.

Please present your Military ID at the entrance for those who’ve served in the military or are currently serving. In gratitude for your service, you’ll be given complimentary admission, as well as a meal that includes a hotdog, chips, and a drink.
