Sebastian Charter Junior High School was recently named a “School of Excellence” for 2021-2022 by the Florida State Board of Education.

The school, located at 782 Wave Street in Sebastian, was the only school in Indian River County and one of only 110 middle schools in the state to be recognized.

Principal William Dodds stated that students are striving for high academic achievement and exemplary character development.

“Our students and staff are proud to have earned an ‘A’ rating from the state of Florida once again this year. SCJH was also recognized as a School of Excellence,” Dodds said in a statement.

Sebastian Charter Junior High School has 288 students serving grades 6-8. About 82% of students scored at or above the proficient math level, and 71% scored at or above that level for reading.

A qualifying school in the state retains the designation as a School of Excellence for up to 3 years.
