Ronald E. Smith, of Sebastian, Florida, passed away on December 25, 2023. He was born on March 31, 1936, to Mary Farmer, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Ron enjoyed a remarkable life filled with a wonderful, loving family, sacrificial military service, travel, and a passion for football, golf, and fishing.

Ron proudly served his country for 31 years as a member of the USAF, joining in 1955. Throughout his distinguished military career, he had the privilege of serving in various capacities and traveled to many countries around the world. Ron’s dedication and commitment to his duty were evident as he bravely served in Vietnam. Retiring in 1986 as Chief Master Sergeant & Senior Enlisted Advisor at Homestead AFB, Florida, Ron was a well-respected, accomplished leader.

Ron was preceded in death by Virgil D. Farmer (father), Mary Farmer (mother), and Bobby Jean Presnell (sister). He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Faye Smith, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Together, they built a loving and supportive home, creating a strong foundation for their family.

Ron’s legacy lives on through his three children: William (Dave) Smith and his wife Erika Smith, Ronda Burke and her husband Louis Burke, Teri Williams, and her husband Jimmie Williams. His sister, Linda Willis, and her husband Robert Willis, his two brothers-in-law, Fred Wallenfelsz and his wife Sandra, and Danny Wallenfelsz, and his wife Sandra.

As a doting grandfather, Ron adored his four grandchildren: Jordan Fuentes and her husband Isaac Fuentes, Jason Williams and his wife Alexis Williams, Katelyn Smith, and Kelly Smith. He took great joy in their accomplishments, sharing in their triumphs and supporting them unconditionally. Ron also enjoyed his time spent with his great-grandson, Josiah.

Ron was a source of inspiration and guidance to his children and grandchildren, imparting valuable life lessons and leaving behind cherished memories.  

Services will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Seawinds Funeral Home @ 735 South Fleming Street, Sebastian, FL. The public viewing will be 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. followed by a service at 3:00 p.m. A formal military burial will be held at a later date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject, or the Disabled American Veterans Association at www.dav.org, two organizations Ron felt strongly about and personally supported.
