VERO BEACH – Josephine ‘Jo’ Bergin Gilhooley, 94, died peacefully in Vero Beach, on Jan. 1, 2018. Josephine died from Parkinson’s Disease complications. She was born on Jan. 17, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Martin and Mary Bergin.

Josephine graduated from Manhattanville College in 1945 with a degree in Art History and English and began a career in advertising. Soon after, she married decorated World War II Navy Lieutenant Commander John J. Gilhooley, to whom she was married for 31 years.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother of six who supported her family and her husband’s career.

Josephine is survived by three sons, Paul (Margaret) Gilhooley, Mark (Leanne) Gilhooley, and David (Erica) Gilhooley; and five granddaughters, Maria, Katherine, Brenna, Hanna, and Maggie Gilhooley Gray.

Josephine is preceded in death by her husband, John J. Gilhooley; and sons, John Gilhooley Jr., Thad Gilhooley, and James Gilhooley.

A funeral service will be held on Jan. 27, 2018, in the O’Byrne Chapel at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.
