While Florida may be seeing a curve in daily new coronavirus cases, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he wants New York “to reopen as soon as possible.”
Cuomo announced during a daily press conference Sunday, hoping to have all non-essential businesses and public places reopened. He pledged to work with New Jersey and Connecticut governors to determine when to end the lockdown.
“People want to get on with their lives, people want to get out of the house, [they’ve got] cabin fever,” the NY governor said Sunday.
“Look, the answer is we want to reopen as soon as possible. Everyone does on a societal level; everyone does on a personal level,” Cuomo said.
He went to say that there will be a regional approach to ensure safety, according to The Hill.
New York is about 10 days ahead of Florida with the most deaths by the coronavirus in the country. There have been 190,288 confirmed cases, with approximately 6,900 deaths.
In Florida, there have been about 20,000 confirmed cases and almost 500 deaths.
Last week, an administrator with the Florida Department of Health in Indian River County said the agency is expecting the coronavirus cases to peak on April 21. After that, there should be a gradual reduction in new cases.
