Florida schools to remain closed for the rest of the school year

Florida schools to continue distance learning.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Saturday that all K-12 schools would continue to use distance learning through the remainder of the school year.

“We spoke with a lot of folks throughout the state. There were some differing opinions,” DeSantis said.

“Some parents were not interested in their kids going back, some others were. It’s been tough around the house they would like to see them go back, but I think as we look at the clock and we look to see what it would look like, we’ve got pretty good momentum for distance learning. It’s obviously not the ideal situation, but given where we are in the school year, we felt that that was the best decision to go forward.”

Last week, DeSantis announced plans to reopen schools at the beginning of May. However, that idea did not sit well with thousands of people who started an online petition calling for schools to remain closed.

People were worried that the coronavirus would spread further and faster if students returned to schools.
