COVID-19 cases are spreading through communities in Indian River County

There were 580 new COVID-19 cases in Indian River County this past week, nearly doubling from the week prior.

We spoke with one couple in Sebastian who contracted the virus, both testing positive on Friday.

“So far, it’s just been like a mild cold. We both had the second booster,” Richard Drescher told Sebastian Daily.

Dr. Mike Venazio, a Sebastian physician, said not many of his patients are infected, but Cleveland Clinic has many people receiving treatment for COVID-19.

A nurse for the hospital said the number of covid-positive patients was at 14, but the number has climbed in recent days. None of the patients are in the ICU.

Health experts say people who receive the booster shot before contracting the virus will have mild symptoms compared to those without it.

Nearly 68 percent of Indian River County residents are fully vaccinated.

The CDC recommends that you wash your hands regularly, wear a mask when indoors, and stay six feet apart to protect yourself.
