SEBASTIAN – Sebastian Daily got a sneak peek at a V.I.P. Media Night of an incredible concert series that begins Thursday.
This is the 24th year of Prism performed by students of the Sebastian River High School band, choir, and color guard. The concert features 45 acts from 380 students.
The two-hour show was remarkable; there was never a dull moment.
“Prism is the Treasure Coast’s largest holiday musical spectacular with more than 5,000 people that see the concert annually,” Ashby Goldstein, director of bands, told Sebastian Daily. “Prism is also the bands largest annual fundraiser. You’ll be amazed at what these young adults can do.”
This year is important because last April, the band’s trailer was stolen, which has been a huge loss. Inside the trailer were important items that include two guard floors, a rolling cart, a monster Bluetooth speaker, and 20 royal blue practice flags and poles.
The band is still trying to raise money to replace the stolen items, as well as the trailer that has never been found. Prism is a huge fundraiser event with 70 percent of funds going toward band activities.
Goldstein said many of the student acts contain festive themes, making the night fun and filling audience members with the holiday spirit.
With Prism, performers are everywhere in the auditorium, singing and playing music, with new surprises with every act. The lights go off between acts, with another one performing as soon as they come back on.
Prism will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school’s Performing Arts Center located at 9001 Shark Boulevard.
Goldstein said that while most of the School District officials in Indian River County attend the show, there are people from all over the country that visit Sebastian to see the concert series.
