VERO BEACH – The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County will be holding “Dogtoberfest,” a public event, on Saturday, September 23rd from 12:30 pm-4:30 pm.

Admission to the Humane Society event is free to this fun-filled family festival located at 6230 77th Street in Vero Beach, and leashed well-behaved dogs are welcome.

The Dogtoberfest festival will have a dog costume contest, a fun canine lure course, a kids zone, hayrides, music, food, and beer.

The festival will be outdoors. However, visitors are welcomed to come inside the shelter to visit with dogs, cats and the other animals who are available for adoption.

The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County, founded in 1953, is dedicated to protecting and helping all of the animals in Indian River County regardless of their health, age, or behavior.

Just last year alone, this nonprofit organization helped over 7,820 animals, and this year they are expected to tend to over 8,400.

These are a few of the services that they provide: humane care and shelter for homeless animals, promoting spaying and neutering of companion animals, placing adoptable pets in permanent loving homes, protecting animals from cruelty, promoting responsible pet ownership and teaching respect for all life through humane education.
