Help Save the Seagrasses at the 8th Annual Capt. Hirams Resort River Challenge Triathlon.

Capt. Hirams Resort has been located on the Indian River for over thirty years, and those who work and live here in Sebastian can agree that they have watched the beauty of the Indian River fade in those thirty years.

The waterfront and its surroundings are a prime feature in the River Challenge Triathlon. This event is dedicated to raising money and awareness regarding the perils that face the Indian River Lagoon.

The first River Challenge was organized in 2012 by the President of Capt. Hirams Resort, Will Collins, to incorporate fitness and give back to the community.

The Indian River Lagoon is one of the most biodiverse estuaries in North America. Locals and visitors alike can attest to the unique beauty of the area.

“We have introduced countless people to our little stretch of paradise through this race, many of whom have become strong activists for our cause. We are proud of our accomplishments so far, but there is still so much more to be done. If you want to be part of the solution, get involved locally. The Capt. Hirams River Challenge is a perfect way to get started”, said Will in a statement.

The goal of the River Challenge Triathlon is to showcase Sebastian’s beauty and raise money and awareness for local environmental organizations and their efforts.

The River Challenge beneficiaries include the Environmental Learning Center (ELC), the Coastal Conversation Association (CCA), and the Ocean Research and Conservation Association (ORCA). These organizations have a common ground that focuses on the conservation and preservation of the Indian River Lagoon.

Over the past seven years, the River Challenge Triathlon has raised over $35,000 for these organizations.

Capt Hirams Resort understands that the race is going to look a little different this year, and they are prepared to go above and beyond to make it as safe as possible for all the participants.
