VERO BEACH – The Cumberland Farms store in Vero Beach called the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office after they claim a man walked in and stole a 4-pack of wine, according to the report.

The suspect was still at the Vero Beach Cumberland Farms, drinking the wine out front of the store.

Deputies arrived and made contact with 37-year-old Robert Joseph Spire. A wine bottle that Spire was drinking was recovered.

However, it was later determined that Spire never stole any wine from the Vero Beach Cumberland Farms.

“I asked him if he knew consuming alcohol in public was illegal, and he informed me that he did,” the deputy said, according to the report.

Spire, who’s unemployed, was transported to the Indian River County Jail where he was charged with Consuming Alcohol in Public.

In December 2016, Spire was arrested for public intoxication after he was licking himself at a Dunkin’ Donuts.

According to jail records, Spire has been arrested 11 times during the past 13 months in Indian River County.
