Last Friday evening, a Sebastian woman was arrested after causing a series of vehicular incidents, crashing into two police cruisers.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., authorities were alerted to a vehicle that had struck a pole and fled the scene at the Main Street Boat ramp, initiating a series of events that led to a dramatic arrest.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Cara Marie Pasquino, was initially reported by a concerned citizen who witnessed her crashing into a pole in the 1300 block of Indian River Drive before fleeing north.
The situation escalated when Pasquino returned southbound on Indian River Drive. An officer, attempting to signal Pasquino to pull over using his flashlight, found himself in harm’s way as the suspect’s vehicle collided with his police cruiser. In a bizarre turn of events, Pasquino, after apologizing for the initial collision, reversed her vehicle into another cruiser.
Despite law enforcement’s attempts to de-escalate, Pasquino resisted commands to exit her vehicle, instead attempting to accelerate further. Fortunately, her car was rendered inoperable, allowing officers to detain her.
Observations of Pasquino’s condition suggested she was under the influence, with physical signs or impairment including red, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and difficulty maintaining balance.
Following a medical evaluation at Sebastian River Medical Center, Pasquino was transported to the Indian River County Jail. Breathalyzer tests revealed her blood alcohol levels to be more than three times the legal limit, with readings of 0.244 and 0.256.
Pasquino now faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Resisting an Officer with Violence, DUI Damage to Property, Leaving a Scene of a Crash, and Reckless Driving. Her bond was set at $12,000.
