Ward Kenyon, 34, was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a shootout with police at the Earl’s Hideaway Lounge in 2017. The court further penalized him with an additional 37 years in prison.
During the chaotic confrontation, one police officer was shot in the foot but has since fully recovered and returned to work.
On July 14, Kenyon was found guilty of three serious charges: attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer using a weapon, possession of a hidden weapon, and tampering with a firearm’s identifying number.
Judge Nicole Menz of the 19th Circuit Court sentenced Kenyon as a Habitual Felony Offender, including, one count as concurrent to the life sentence and another consecutively.
The trouble began in 2017 when the police attempted to take Kenyon into custody at the Earl’s Hideaway Lounge on a warrant. As officers moved in to apprehend him, he resisted, which led to a struggle near a pool table.
During this struggle, a gun discharged, injuring a Sebastian Police officer’s foot. The investigators, however, were unable to determine who had fired the shot that injured the officer.
In the incident’s aftermath, police found that Kenyon had two firearms.
