A Sebastian man was arrested after firing a handgun at another individual at the Sebastian Inn and Suites (Sebastian Sands) on U.S. Highway 1 in Roseland.

On the evening of December 8, 2023, the Indian River Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding gunfire during an altercation between two individuals. At the scene, they discovered a man, William Palmer, showing signs of physical injury. Palmer, 40, initially complied with deputies’ instructions but became combative when a firearm was spotted on him. He was subsequently detained.

The investigation revealed that Palmer knew the other individual involved. A dispute over money led to a physical confrontation in Palmer’s room, which then moved outside. According to investigators, the altercation ended with Palmer discharging a firearm as the other person walked away, a detail corroborated by witnesses and surveillance footage.

An inspection of the scene confirmed the discharge of a firearm. The weapon, identified as a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, was secured by the authorities. Palmer, who exhibited signs of intoxication, was less cooperative during questioning and requested legal counsel.

He faces charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm Without Intent to Kill and is currently held on a $200,000 bond at the Indian River County Jail.
