SEBASTIAN – A 42-year-old Sebastian man was arrested on charges of battery domestic violence after punching his girlfriend and driving her around while she was in the back of a pickup truck.

Brian Smith, who works as an electrician, was named a suspect after the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spoke with the victim. She said Smith “had beat her up” before she got into the back of the truck.

The victim told the 911 operator that he was still driving her around Sebastian. The Sebastian Police Department located the truck and conducted a traffic stop.

The victim was unable to tell police how many times she was hit. “She only stated it was a lot and she was tired of getting beat,” the report said.

The victim was crying, fearful, afraid and irrational to the point that a deputy had to wait for her to calm down before speaking to her.

The deputy observed numerous bruises on the victim, located on her lower back, lower legs on the shin area, both arms, wrists, on both sides of her neck, and under her right eye. There was also a cut on the victim’s left ear.

All injuries were allegedly from Smith punching the victim multiple times. The injuries were severe enough that she had to be transported to the Sebastian River Medical Emergency Room for treatment

Smith declined to speak with police. He was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail where he was charged with battery domestic violence.
