On Saturday, Brevard County deputies arrested a man in Micco after allegedly beating up his girlfriend and causing her sternum to be fractured.

Deputies responded to the 3600 block of Iris Lane in Micco about a disturbance. The victim told law enforcement that her boyfriend, identified as 36-year-old Jeremy Scott Cayo, became increasingly “physically abusive” with her the night before following an argument, the affidavit said.

The victim stated the argument escalated, and Cayo pushed her on the bed and began to beat her.

“He then climbed atop her and began punching her ‘all over’ her body, but mainly on her chest. The encounter ended, and the victim remained at the residence for the night,” the deputy said.

The following morning, the victim suffered “severe chest pains” and found it hard to breathe or move her upper body to walk. She went to the hospital and was informed of a fractured sternum from the beating.

When the victim returned home, another altercation ensued with Cayo that led to another physical encounter.

“During this encounter, Mr. Cayo began ‘beating’ the victim. My own observations revealed redness and a small bruise over her left eye. Additionally, her left arm was swollen about halfway down her forearm. The swelling was similar in size to a golf ball and contained a small laceration in the center,” the deputy said.

Deputies verified with the hospital about her diagnosis of a fractured sternum.

Deputies then questioned Cayo, but he remained silent and invoked the Fifth Amendment.

The investigation revealed that Cayo intentionally struck the victim, causing great bodily harm. He was charged with two counts of Felon Battery Domestic Violence.

Cayo was transported to the Brevard County Jail, where he remains on $15,000 bond.
