The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office was notified Monday of an incident involving Sebastian River High School students attending online classes.
The allegations are that as class ended, the male teacher told students to log off from the learning session. The teacher was teaching from home, outside of Indian River County, on a personal computer.
Two students did not log off and could still see the teacher’s screen. The two students reported that the teacher began viewing online pornography not knowing the students were still logged in.
At this time, this is an active criminal investigation.
“We are proud of our partnership with the School District of Indian River County and continue to work closely to protect all of the children of our community,” Maj. Eric Flowers of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
One of the parents who’s child attended the class spoke out and warned other parents of the situation. She also said her child filmed the teacher during the incident.
The parent called the video “disturbing” and warned other parents of what might be going on during their children’s online virtual schooling.
“My daughter just had a teacher that was supposed to be teaching, but he was watching porn and making noises in the computer. So you all need to keep an eye on what’s going on,” the parent said.
We received information that the teacher was allegedly fired this morning. We are still waiting for a public statement from the School District of Indian River County.
