Detectives Closer To Solving 10 Year Homicide Case

Helen McPherson, 86, was killer in her Vero Beach home.

VERO BEACH – Indian River County Sheriff’s detectives feel that they are getting closer to finding the person(s) responsible for the death of Helen McPherson, who was found beaten and strangled.

The 87-year-old was a resident of Vero Beach for 60 years before she was tragically murdered on July 15, 2006, at her residence in the 2600 block of 49th Street in Vero Beach.

Investigators at the crime scene collected hundreds of pieces of evidence, and they have been using updated DNA technology to go over each item.

Sheriff Deryl Loar feels confident that this case will be solved.

Over the last ten years, Indian River County detectives have interviewed witnesses and suspects, followed leads, and processed forensic evidence.

McPherson was a mother of three sons, grandmother of 11, and great-grandmother of 10. It would be heartbreaking for this family not to have closure.
