MICCO – A 23-year-old Barefoot Bay resident faces multiple charges after stealing a credit card and charging over $1,000, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim is a 76-year-old woman who has suffered from a stoke and has dementia.

Kristin Scherl was charged with Exploitation Elderly or Disabled Adult, Fraud Use of a Credit Card, Grand Theft, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Officer, and having a Controlled Substance without a Prescription.

He used the victim’s credit card twice at the Bealls Outlet in Sebastian, and made purchases from other stores totaling $1,000 in charges, the report said.

Scherl said the elderly woman is the mother of a friend, and she admitted to using the credit card five times without her knowledge or consent, according to the affidavit.

She was arrested, taken to the Brevard County Jail and is currently being held on $22,000 bond.
