With support from the Sebastian Police Department and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office reported that over 15 people have been arrested, and hundreds of pounds of illicit berries have been seized since the onset of the saw palmetto berry season.

The saw palmetto berry season began in August. Officials noted that these berries are prized for their health properties and are marketed as a natural supplement.

Furthermore, the berries can be used as a dietary aid for urinary symptoms linked to an enlarged prostate gland, chronic pelvic discomfort, migraines, and hair thinning.

This crucial natural product offers health advantages and is available as a natural supplement. Regrettably, some choose to pillage both public and private lands.

Illegal harvesting has resulted in issues like trespassing, theft, and property damage, including the cutting of fences and posts. As a result, it causes livestock to stray onto highways.

Deputies encourage locals to notify them of any unusual activities around the Interstate 95 vicinity or the Sebastian River Preserve, particularly at night.
