Sunday Strong – Fitness for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities at Treasure Coast CrossFit

Treasure Coast Crossfit

Sunday Strong is a 501c3 non-profit that aims to increase physical activity in adults with intellectual disabilities by collaborating with fitness providers to organize free weekly group exercise sessions for its participants.

Technically, Sunday Strong caters to individuals aged 16 and above with intellectual disabilities. However, during Sunday Strong classes, you won’t encounter the term “intellectual disability.” Instead, they are referred to as participants or athletes.

Last month, I enjoyed attending the Sunday Strong FUNcitional Fitness class at Treasure Coast CrossFit and was very impressed with the program. The instructors find creative ways to keep participants active and happy with fun holiday-themed activities.

The Sunday Strong athletes encompass individuals with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of physical fitness. Whether you’re a regular exerciser or someone who has never engaged in physical activity, they are delighted that you’re committed to enhancing your physical well-being.

Sunday Strong

In 2016, Laura Radocaj, the founder of Sunday Strong, attended a Special Olympics golf tournament with her sister Maria. She was deeply concerned by the poor physical condition of many of the athletes. Having witnessed Maria’s lifelong struggle with weight and knowing that Maria’s quality of life and mental and physical well-being improved when she prioritized her health through exercise, Laura recognized that while Maria had no control over her intellectual disability, she could control her health and wellness. Laura was determined to help every athlete at that golf tournament achieve the same.
