Sebastian River High School Assistant Principal Van Brimmer thought outside of the box when challenging his students with an October reading competition. He told them that whichever class scored the highest average on the Achieve3000 would get to shave his head.

All the classes in the 9th and 10th grade saw a significant increase in the average score. Ms. Cornacchione, Mr. Arce, Mrs. Howder, and Mrs. Platt all ran incentive programs for their classes that made a difference in their scores.

Goal

The goal was for the students to score the highest average in the October Achieve3000 competition as a class.

Winner

Ms. Cornacchione’s 6th-period reading class won the October Achieve3000 competition with a score of 77%! Mrs. Howder’s 1st period finished just 3/10’s of a point behind the winning class.
