SEBASTIAN – AT2 Joe Cain was recognized by his Navy Patrol Squadron, VP-27, for troubleshooting inboard and lower display units, fixing the problem, and fixing the procedures in the book with Fleet Service Representatives.
The Golden Swordsmen of Patrol Squadron Forty Seven (VP-47) are known for their long history of tradition and success. This success has earned them the highest acknowledgment of merit under a number of designators throughout several decades.
Initially, Cain joined the Navy to serve his country and to have money to pay for college. Now he is gaining knowledge, and the opportunity to travel. He has had recent detachments in the Philippines and Guam.
As a teenager, he joined a volunteer program called the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps. It’s a youth and young adults group based on the core value of the Navy and teaches Naval skills and jobs while instilling patriotism, responsibility, physical fitness, and integrity.
He credits the program and the adult leaders within the program for giving him the knowledge and drive to achieve the rating of AT2 (Petty Officer 2nd class) in only two short years.
“Without it, I wouldn’t have the leadership skills and dedication to duty that I have today. I highly recommend any teen looking for a challenge to join their nearest unit, Cain stated.
Accomplishments –
On top of Cain’s qualifications in various support equipment, the Navy has afforded him the opportunity for trade school level training. After going through his second C” school, P-8A Poseidon school in Jacksonville, Fl, he started working on various system proficiencies in his squadron. Alongside them, he also earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualification and Collateral Duty Inspector qualification, which means he is the final inspector of a task that is important to the integrity of the Aircraft. Both required a lot of my time and focus.
Cain’s advice to future SRHS alumni:
“Never Quit. Always keep setting the bar one notch higher and never stop climbing the ladder of success. Take advantage of the opportunities afforded to you and work for the other opportunities you want,” Cain told Sebastian Daily.
