On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of attending the Shop with a Cop event at the Sebastian Walmart. If you have never participated in this event, you don’t know what you are missing. It is an event that you will always remember.

Every year, 150 children between the ages of 6-14 years-of-age are chosen from Indian River County by way of an application to receive $100 each to spend at Walmart while shopping with local law enforcement.

The children can use the money to shop for themselves, or they can choose to buy for their family members.

Law Enforcement Officers from the Sebastian Police Department, Indian River Shores PD, the Florida Highway Patrol, Vero Beach Police Department, and the Indian River County Sherriff’s Office volunteer their time to shop with children in Indian River County who are less fortunate.

In addition, to this being a great charity event for our community, it is also a fantastic way for our youth to bond and see law enforcement in a different light.
