A Sebastian River High School automotive school teacher is under investigation for allegedly killing a lizard after launching it through an exhaust pipe using compressed air.
“After finding this on my child’s phone, I’m asking for you to please review this video link & explain how this type of behavior is acceptable. Using school property and compressed air to launch a reptile by a well-seasoned instructor,” Mike Long stated to Superintendent Dr. David Moore.
The video shows students gathering as one is holding an automotive exhaust pipe, pushing a lizard in, with an air compressor attached to the other end.
Sebastian Daily is not publishing the video because of privacy concerns involving the students.
The teacher, who has not been identified, has been reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation, school officials told Sebastian Daily.
Some parents watched the video in horror, and others thought the lizard was already dead before it was placed in the pipe.
“We are disheartened to be alerted to a video of this nature and want to ensure the community that this behavior is not indicative of the professionalism we expect from our staff members or the culture and climate of our school district,” school officials said in a statement.
