SEBASTIAN – Twenty-seven Sebastian River High School students will graduate as Certified Nursing Assistants.

These students have completed a 3-year program. They take Health Science Anatomy and Physiology in 10th grade. In 11th grade, they take Health Science Foundations, where they learn about communication skills, employability skills, medical terminology, safety with patients, infection control, legal and ethical issues, and health careers.

In their senior year, they take the Nursing Assistant class. They learn and practice skills (using manikins and each other depending on the skill) such as blood pressure, pulse, bathing, brushing teeth and dentures, feeding, changing sheets while the patient is still in the bed, bedpans and so on.

They did their clinical hours at Palm Garden, Pelican Landing, and Pelican Garden; In February, the students took the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant Exam.
