There are a few businesses that deserve recognition for helping our community during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sebastian, Florida.
We have a strong community because most of us have gone through tough times, such as multiple hurricanes that devastated our town in 2004 and 2005. Then we had the housing crises, which crippled our local economy for several years. The community has always come together during the worst times, and the coronavirus pandemic is no different.
When the pandemic is over, we ask everyone to remember these local businesses.
Sandy’s Grille
Sandy Jankovic closed her restaurant and bar to help feed our community. Sandy’s Grille recently cooked and donated a lot of food to Love to Serve, Inc., Hope for Family’s Homeless Shelter, Sebastian Police Department, Fire Stations #8 & #9, Learning Nest, hospice patients, and elderly families that can not leave their homes. During the hurricanes, Sandy has always opened up her restaurant for people in need. Sandy’s Grille will reopen on Monday, April 13th, for curbside and take-out ordering. The restaurant is located at 171 Sebastian Blvd.
Rekindled Furniture & Home Decor in Sebastian
Samantha Burns of Rekindled Furniture & Home Decor wanted to do something positive in the community since much of her regular business canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Burns has put a lot of fabric scraps to use by creating masks for the public and those who are working the frontline in the medical field. She has donated more than 1,000 masks so far.
Robert Doerr Upholstery
Robert and Carrie Doerr have already produced masks for anyone in the community in need. They never charged for them, but only asked for donations to help restock the materials used. Robert Doerr Upholstery is a small, family-owned and operated upholstery shop in Sebastian. They also created their own Robert Doerr Face Masks website for people to order.
Best Choice Window Cleaning in Sebastian
John Frazier of Best Choice Window Cleaning in Sebastian recently purchased $250 in gift cards to feed people in need. He gave the cards away during a recent drawing. John said it was a good way to give back to the community that has supported his business for the past five years. John hopes it will have a ripple effect.
Woody’s Bar-B-Q
When owners Roger and Kathy Birt found out that John Frazier of Best Choice Window Cleaning was giving away $250 in gift cards, they matched it! Woody’s BBQ has been helping people in need in our community for the past 20+ years.
McDonald’s in Roseland
McDonald’s might be a franchise, but the owner is local and has helped our community in many ways. The owner and managers recently donated food to the medical staff at the ER and the fire department.
Frank Nolan
Just days before the COVID-19 pandemic, Frank Nolan received a Citizens Award by the Sebastian Police Department. Frank, who is also a manager at the McDonald’s in Roseland, has helped the homeless and many families. He has used his own money to buy groceries for struggling families. Frank understands when people go through difficult times, and has shown nothing but compassion for those in need.
