Joey Rumberger

Indian River Charter High School student Joey Rumberger was selected as one of eight students and the youngest worldwide to attend the Noordbroek Organ Academy this summer in the Netherlands.

Music is his passion, and he intends to pursue organ performance as a career. This trip will be a life-changing opportunity for him to perform and take private lessons on some of the world’s most famous and historic pipe organs.

The 16-year-old plays piano in the IRCHS orchestra, interns and performs with the Treasure Coast Chorale, plays the reed organ at Fellsmere Baptist Church, substitutes for his piano/organ teacher during services at First Baptist Church in Vero Beach, plays handbells, and restores reed organs as a hobby.

They will be having a “Showers of Music” performance and dinner fundraiser for Joey at Fellsmere First Baptist Church on Friday, May 5, 2023, beginning at 6:15 pm.

It will be a chicken dinner followed by a Hymn-Sing and recital of Victorian Parlor music played on an authentic 1880’s E.P. Carpenter Reed Organ.

Dinner will begin at 6:15 pm, and music will begin at 7:00 pm.

A free-will offering will be collected during the performance, with all proceeds going to fund the expenses of Joey’s Noordbroek Organ Academy in the Netherlands this June.

Joey hopes to attend Stetson University after he graduates from IRCHS in 2024.
