Approximately 2-years ago, Bubba thought he found his forever home. Unfortunately, last year he was brought back to Halo extremely sick.

After multiple vet visits with the previous owners, the only solution the vets gave them was euthanasia, and they decided Halo was the best option. Once he was brought in, they knew they needed to find a better solution for him.

After seeing a specialist vet in Orlando, Bubba was diagnosed with megaesophagus. Basically, he has an enlarged esophagus that prevents the muscles from contracting in order to move the food down to his stomach.

Now that they knew what he was dealing with, they were able to figure out how to properly care for him. It included building him his own Baileys Chair that allows him to eat sitting up and let gravity do its work on getting the food down.

Just before Hurricane Dorian, Bubba became ill again. His owners couldn’t figure out what was happening, as he had been doing so well. Due to the storm, no local vets were open so rushed him to the emergency vet in Brevard. From there, x-rays and ultrasounds were taken. They showed an obstruction in his bowels.

They took him into emergency surgery. In surgery, they found the end of a knot rope. The knot part was blocking his small intestines & the fringe was damaging them. So, they had to remove 1/3 of his intestines. With the megaesophagus, surgery was risky and a heart arrhythmia brought on some unexpected complications. Through all of this, Bubba is finally on the road to recovery.

Bubba and his forever family have been through so much. Please swing by 470 Perch Ln, in Sebastian, on Saturday or Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to help with Bubba’s costly life-saving surgery.
