As Hurricane Dorian approaches Florida, Indian River County schools will be operating on an early release schedule for all students on Friday. Student absences will be excused.
All after-care programs and after-school activities are canceled. There is no schedule on when schools will reopen.
Open Houses
Open Houses will be canceled tonight 8/29 at Gifford Middle School, Sebastian River Middle School, and Sebastian River High School.
Vero Beach Elementary and Citrus Elementary will still have open houses tonight, as planned.
Because our schools serve as emergency shelters, if shelters are open, school is canceled.
Regarding Excused Absences
Indian River County will respect each family’s decision regarding their student being in attendance during this emergency situation. If your student should be out next week during a time school is in session, we will work with each family to excuse absences.
Indian River State College
Indian River State College will close at 5 p.m. Friday and remain closed until further notice.
Brevard County Schools
Brevard County schools will be open as normal Friday, including all after-school activities, sports, and childcare.
All Brevard County school activities this weekend are canceled through Monday.
