SEBASTIAN – There’s been a lot of construction going on at the plaza where the Dollar Tree was for many years before moving to its new location just south on U.S. Highway 1. Soon, its old space will be occupied by Indian River County.

“My understanding is that they will be using the new location for the north county offices … it’s nice to see them moving into the city of Sebastian,” Major Jim Hill told Sebastian Daily.

This week, the contractor at the plaza is adding a new roof while completing a $1.8 million renovation. Construction should be finished in a couple of months for the county offices to move in. The plaza, called Sebastian Corners shopping center, is owned by the county.

The offices will include the county tax collector, property appraiser, utilities, clerk of court, and Veterans Services. The new Sebastian location will provide 8,400-square-feet of space for the county.

The county purchased the shopping center last year for about $2.7 million. The move for the north county offices is expected to be a long-term commitment inside Sebastian.

The county has been at its current location for almost 30 years.
