SEBASTIAN – A lot of people have been wondering about all of the construction at the HALO No-Kill Rescue Shelter on U.S. Highway 1 in Sebastian.

“It’s very exciting news. They are hooking our septic to sewer lines,” Executive Director Jacque Petrone told Sebastian Daily.

Hooking septic to sewer lines is a project going on for many businesses and homes in the city. It’s better for the environment and our lagoon. Over time, septics can leak, causing pollution in the ground that can eventually leak into our lagoon.

People started asking questions last week about the construction signs and orange cones located in front of HALO. Part of their driveway is completely dug up.

On December 19, 2016, we reported that many residents and businesses in northern Sebastian and along the riverfront were making the switch from septic to sewer. All of this is becoming possible due to the city council agreeing to offer a grant which residents can apply for to cover the costs.

The goal has always been to get Sebastian residents and businesses connected to the county’s sewer system.
