The recall petitions for Sebastian City Council members Damien Gilliams, Pamela Parris, and Charles Mauti have been returned to the City after being certified by Supervisor of Elections Leslie Swan.

Damien Gilliams has been served. Pamela Parris, and Charles Mauti will be served shortly. The council members have five days, from the day they are served, to resign or face a special election to be removed from public office.

If it comes to a special election, a judge will set a date within the next five days. The special election could be very soon, possibly next month, but it’s ultimately up to the judge. Here’s the number of petitions signed for recall:

Damien Gilliams: 3,488
Pamela Parris: 3,470
Charles Mauti: 3,323

Last week, Charles Mauti said he would resign, although he has not submitted his resignation yet.

In the past, Gilliams has stated that he is a “duly elected official” and will not step down. He told Sebastian Daily two months ago that he will only recognize the recall if it was done properly.

Parris has been speaking with people on social media this week. She wrote, “No convictions. The judge said the meeting was not secret but legal. By Charter order of consensus,” referring to the April 22, 2020 meeting.

When a resident asked Parris why she was arrested, she answered, “It was decided that way to keep peace.”
