The City of Sebastian and Hidden Sanctuary Village Inc., a domestic violence shelter, will co-sponsor an event called Celebrate Sebastian on Nov. 14, 2020, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Riverview Park.
Dan Johnson, CEO of Hidden Sanctuary Village Inc., also said the kids’ activities would include face painting, balloon animals, cotton candy, and a dunk tank. For the adults, the dunk tank may apply too, but there will be music.
“We have six live bands, including the Sebastian River High School Band. In between bands, there will be a DJ, so it will be a music-filled day,” Johnson told Sebastian Daily.
The Sebastian River High School Band will also be setting up for cold drinks and selling tickets for their Christmas concert.
The event will 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm, but vendors will be there earlier. It’s free to the public and vendors. This event is a family-oriented day full of fun for both kids and adults.
Food will include but is not limited to ice cream, popcorn, and Woody’s BBQ. There will be multiple nonprofits on hand for our community to interact with, including Hidden Sanctuary Village Inc. Domestic Violence Shelter, Love to Serve Inc, For the Love of Paws, and Halo No-Kill Shelter, to name a few.
“We have 35 plus vendors already and looking for another 20 vendors to join this celebration. All tents will be socially distanced, and although masks are not required by law, we are encouraging them. Any vendors or questions can be sent via email to Dan Johnson or call him at 772-563-3157.
“We want to thank Tracey Cole and the City of Sebastian for making this family (family of Sebastian) celebration possible. No politics, please. The elections will be over when this happens. Let’s all enjoy our little slice of paradise,” Johnson said.
Mayor Ed Dodd said the event organizers agreed to follow COVID-19 protocol, even though the state has moved to lift all restrictions.
“They agreed to follow COVID-19 protocol for the event. I agree that we should be vigilant and remain cautious because COVID is not going away for some time,” Dodd told Sebastian Daily.
Dodd said there is already an ordinance in place and hopes people wear masks, social distance, and wash hands often at the Celebrate Sebastian event.
The current COVID-19 cases in Sebastian and throughout Indian River County remain low. State numbers went up to 4,000 only to drop back down near 1,700.
New COVID-19 cases in Florida have been averaging 1,500 to 4,000 for over a month.
