Boy receives Life Saving Award from City of Sebastian

Gage Kepley receives Hero Award

Gage Kepley, age 9, received a Life-Saving Award at the last City Council meeting. Thomas Hand, Jeffrey Rosenkraus, and Andrew Muehlberger also received the award for their efforts to save a mother and her two children after their vehicle crashed into a pond.

“It takes a special person to step in and do something like this, and that’s what we have here today are some special people who are heroes,” Sebastian Police Chief Dan Acosta said.

Acosta then gave 9-year-old Gage Kepley a Hero Award.

Kepley was a passenger in this mother’s vehicle when it went into the pond off of Schumann Drive. Also in the car were his mother and two siblings, ages 5 and 1.

The mother freed her 1-year-old son and Kepley reacted fast and freed his 5-year-old sibling. 

Bystanders Thomas Hand, Jeffrey Rosenkraus, and Andrew Muehlberger also jumped in the water to help the mother and her children.
