VERO BEACH – For almost a year, Vero Beach residents have been excited about the new Wawa opening at 1180 U.S. 1, at the southeast corner of U.S. 1 and 12th Street.

Wawa will have its grand opening in Vero Beach on Thursday morning with a celebration that will offer free samples, giveaways, and fun.

There will be a hoagie-building contest between the Vero Beach Police Department, Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, and the Indian River County Fire Rescue.

Wawa has been ranked as one of America’s favorite convenience store chains in national marketing surveys. While they do offer a gas station, they are famous for their food.

If you like pretzels, you’ll love Wawa. They specialize in great foods such as breakfast sandwiches and homemade hoagies. The store isn’t like other convenience stores; everything is made fresh. That also means the coffee.

Wawa brews more than 195 million cups of coffee each year using its own special blends. The store offers a variety of flavors.

Wawa is a full-service kitchen and offers the convenience factor. They sell gas, but it’s not their primary reason to stay open for business.

And with that in mind, expect gas wars to begin early Thursday before the grand opening of Wawa.
