Stimulus Checks Next Week Amid Rising Unemployment Numbers

Stimulus checks are coming next week, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said Friday.

The stimulus money are for people who authorized direct deposit and filed tax returns for 2018 or 2019.

People who haven’t filed tax returns will likely have to wait months before seeing their checks. Some may have to file their return or register online to receive the stimulus checks.

According to USA Today, the government is distributing money while prioritizing low-income Americans and Social Security beneficiaries.

On April 2, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the money would be sent within two weeks as part of the $2.2 trillion economic stimulus package, which was passed by Congress last month.

Next week, the IRS is launching a new tool to help low-income people receive checks. These are people who aren’t required to file returns. They’ll have to go online and provide their name, Social Security number, address, and the number of any dependents. The tool will also allow them to receive a direct deposit, according to CNN.

In addition, the IRS is set to roll out a website that will allow people to provide banking information to receive their money faster without waiting for paper checks.

Unemployment numbers are soaring as many people in some states have complained about the online application. In Florida, many people say they have received no confirmation on how much compensation they’ll receive. Calls to the unemployment office also go unanswered.

Hopefully, the money next week will bring much relief to people who haven’t seen an income in about a month.
