Last week, the City of Sebastian revealed that Vice Mayor Christopher R. Nunn has been honored with the Gold Certificate of Excellence by the Florida League of Cities (FLC) University’s Certificate Program for Elected Municipal Officials. The FLC University, part of the Florida League of Cities, serves as the premier training center for municipal officials.

It’s a big deal for Vice Mayor Nunn and the City of Sebastian.

This newly introduced certificate program lauds the unwavering commitment of municipal officials to continuous learning and professional development. FLC University introduced the program to commend those elected representatives who engage in numerous training opportunities provided by the League. Participants can earn three levels of certificates:

FLC President for 2022-2023 and Vice Mayor of Port St. Lucie, Jolien Caraballo, emphasized that the FLC University conducts a mix of virtual and in-person educational sessions. These aim to update municipal officials on current issues, evolving trends, and best practices.

“This achievement is a testament to Florida’s municipal elected officials’ commitment to the cities and residents they serve. On behalf of the Florida League of Cities, I applaud these hardworking elected officials for taking the time out of their busy days to participate in these valuable programs,” said Caraballo.

Vice Mayor Nunn completed the certificate initiative in its debut year, from August 2022 to July 2023. Points were awarded to officials for attending various training events provided by FLC University. This included monthly webinars, an online orientation, sessions at the Institute for Elected Municipal Officials, the mandatory Continuing Education in Ethics, the League’s Annual Conference, and legislative functions.

All certificate awardees will gain recognition in the League’s renowned magazine, Quality Cities (QC), and during the FLC Annual Conference.
