Residents and businesses in northern Sebastian are getting help to compensate for connecting to the Indian River County sewer line that runs through the riverfront district.
On Wednesday, the City Council agreed to triple the grant which residents can apply for to cover the costs by offering $15,000 for sewer hookups.
Residents are being offered grant opportunities to residents and businesses in the CRA to help offset the cost of connecting to the county sewer system. These grants will be up to $15,000 which will be paid from the city’s Lagoon Fund at up to $10,000 and from a $100,000 grant received from the Indian River Lagoon Council at up to $5,000 per applicant.
The funds would help replace the old septic systems along Sebastian’s Riverfront, providing for fewer pollutants flowing into the fragile Indian River Lagoon.
This is just one of the many efforts underway by the City of Sebastian to protect this precious waterway.
The goal is to get all residents on the Riverfront connected to the county’s sewer system.
