SEBASTIAN – In recent weeks, we’ve been talking a lot about the Sebastian gas prices. It’s still an interesting topic because Sebastian residents continue to pay more than the Florida average, while the neighboring towns like Vero Beach and Palm Bay pay far less.
Gas prices along U.S. Highway 1 of Sebastian are setting their price to the Florida average, while stations west on CR-512 are much higher. Sebastian Daily has reached out to local gas stations, a Florida state inspector, and county politicians. In a nutshell, we’re told that the market determines the price.
The price of $2.29 is the lowest price to pay today in Sebastian, but even that is considered high.
Some residents are so mad that they refuse to buy gas in town. They have saved upwards of 46 to 50 cents per gallon by filling up in Palm Bay.
Today’s national average is $2.45 per gallon, and the Florida average is $2.33 per gallon, according to AAA.

- $2.09 in Vero Beach (7-Eleven/Rocket Fuel)
- $2.04 in Palm Bay (RaceTrac, Wawa, BP)
- $2.03 in Melbourne (Sam’s Club, BJ’s)
The cheapest price in our town is $2.29. The Sunoco in Sebastian, on CR-512, is $2.43 per gallon, and the BP station is selling it for $2.55. All on the same road, just a few miles apart in Sebastian. A lot of people who live in Vero Lake Estates are paying this rate when filling up west of town.
If you live west of Sebastian, we suggest taking I-95 north to the next exit in Palm Bay and filling up. You’ll pay anywhere from $2.03 to $2.04 per gallon.
Why should people in Sebastian pay more?
