Sebastian gas prices jump 20 cents, higher than Florida average

SEBASTIAN – On Tuesday, some gas stations in Sebastian raised their gas prices by 20 cents, higher than the Florida average.

The Speedway and Mobil gas stations at the corner of CR-512 and U.S. Highway 1 increased their gas prices to $2.20, staying above the $2 mark.

The gas stations in Sebastian were expected to lower their prices below $2 last week. The Mobil gas station west of town at the corner of CR-510 and CR-512 did drop it to $1.99 momentarily. They were the only station.

Walmart and Cumberland Farms are still selling gas for $2.01 a gallon.

So why are gas prices going up?

The price of oil did jump, but it usually takes several days, if not weeks, for these prices to reflect local prices. For some reason, Speedway and Mobil on U.S. Highway 1 felt justified in raising the price approximately 20 cents more.

Exxon in Palm Bay is selling gas at $1.89 per gallon, making it 41 cents less per gallon. Most gas stations in Palm Bay are still below $2 per gallon.

For the first time, gas stations in Vero Beach have decided to raise their prices too. Until now, a lot of the gas stations were priced cheaper, similar to Palm Bay. The lowest price in Vero Beach is now $2.07.
